DREDmAN DEADMAN

Written & Produced

by Felicity Pickering

'Quite dark, very funny and recognizably the 2000s.' - Ariella Stoian

It’s the summer of 2001, in the wake of 9/11. Max, 14, has been left responsible for his little sister Alice, 12, while his parents holiday in Gosford. Max is determined to prove to his parents that he’s finally an adult, while Alice wants to have the best summer ever with her best friends, Ellie and Lara. Alice hosts slumber parties, while Max reaches out to the mysterious older boy in the neighbourhood from the video store.

The perfect summer seems close, when Max introduces the girls to the tale of Dredman Deadman, a spectral man who visits prepubescents at night. As the days go by Alice becomes convinced that Dredman Deadman is watching her and while Max tells her to grow up, he’s not entirely convinced himself.

The very lack of supervision they once coveted becomes the very thing they fear. An exploration of legitimate and illegitimate fears, peer pressure and growing up. A perfect play for lovers of 90s horror classics.

Dredman Deadman has had two public readings. Dredman Deadman was developed out of a year long mentorship with ATYP. The mentorship culminated with a public reading in 2016.

In 2017, Dredman Deadman was selected for the Old 505 Theatre's Young Playwrights Festival. The Young Playwrights Festival showcased new plays from young writers.
